School Beginnings

Today, along with thousands of other children up and down the country, was Noah’s first day of school, ever.

I have spent most of this week anxiously waiting for today, worried that he might be overwhelmed, or not like the SEN school that we chose, and that it might just all be too much for him.

Well, I shouldn’t have worried. When he got to school this morning, kitted out in all his new uniform, he ran straight up to the front door and started banging to get in! He understood where he was and he was excited to get started!

Hurdle #1 Get him through the door…. check!

The SEN school we chose use a great app that meant we could talk directly to the teachers via a messenger service, and they kept us in the loop all day about how he was getting on. They sent through pictures of him running off steam outside and let us know he was enjoying exploring all of the resources there.

Hurdle #2 Make sure he’s happy in the setting… check!

I found out when we collected him that he had spent most of the day using one of the TA’s as a climbing frame and loved every second, this poor fella has now earned the nickname “climbing-frame-Callum” in our house, I just hope he doesn’t mind too much!

Hurdle #3 Comfortable with the staff… check!

He was so distracted by all of the activities and things to do today that he didn’t eat a huge amount of lunch, but he made up for it when he got home by scoffing down pizza, sliced apple, banana milkshake, a wafer cake, some breadsticks and a little bit of chocolate.

He’s now in bed, processing his day as he winds down to sleep. This evening at home he’s been a happy, excited little boy who’s thoroughly enjoyed his first day at school, and I couldn’t be more proud of him for how he’s handled today.

Well done Noah, you absolutely smashed it, and we couldn’t be more proud
