When your child barely says any words at all, you tend to remember the origins of each and every new one they pick up. One of Noah's favourite words is "Cookie". He says it when he wants a snack, when he wants an actual cookie, and mostly when he's super excited. A simple word, it's one of his most clear and coherent ones, and it's all thanks to two mums at school who decided to go to war for his affections.
This is the story of how my Cookie Monster came to be.
It all started when one mum picked up some cookies on her way into school one morning, as an innocent gesture. She offered one to all of the little ones, but Noah took his and then climbed into her lap for a cuddle, which had never happened before! Over the few months they've all been in school, us mums have become really close, and we have all tried to bond with each others children, and Noah can be really reserved with his trust, so seeing this, another mum decided SHE wanted a cuddle from Noah, and set about her plan.
A few days later, she turned up to school with the biggest cookie I've ever seen, topped with the words "Noah loves Laura, NOT Sam!" in pink and white icing. After showing Noah and chasing him around the school entrance with it, we took it back home, and that night as we cut it into pieces for him, he said it, for the first time... "coooookiiiieeee". I got it on camera and immediately sent it to everyone!
"We have a new word!"
Since then he says it in context all the time. We were in the car on our way home not long after when from the back of the car came "Da-deeeeeee?", "Yes Noah?", my husband replied, "Coookiiieeeee?", Noah asked, "I'll see what I can do", and we immediately found a shop to go and grab him a pack of cookies, because we had to reward his communication!
Noah's now the little cookie monster at school, and even got a cookie monster teddy for his birthday that he absolutely adores and sleeps with every night, from the mum who made it all happen.... and of course, a huge box cookies too! And in return, she's definitely earned Noah's trust!
